Since I set up my photography page on Facebook only a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would offer the extra print as a promotion and hopefully acquire more fans. Sounds simple enough, right? Then I started wondering what would be the best way to keep track of entries. Since Facebook doesn’t always tell me who liked my page (presumably due to privacy settings), how would I know who to enter in the drawing? So, I thought I would ask people to share the photo and then I could enter names from the shares into a random draw. But, then I realized that I could only see who shared from my page and if someone “shared from a share” I would not have access to those names.
Okay, this was starting to get messy. I decided to do a search on “how to hold a drawing on Facebook,” because surely others have done it and why try to re-invent the wheel? That’s when it got really messy! I found out that it is against Facebook rules to do what I was considering. Not only is it forbidden to use shares or likes as contest entries, it is required that you use an app. And, wouldn’t you know it, the apps cost money!
Being somewhat of a rule-breaker all my life, my first instinct was to just go ahead and do it anyway. But, judgement got the better of me, and since I didn’t want to risk getting my page shut down after just getting it set up, I decided to do it Facebook’s way. So, click the photo above if you want to enter my drawing. I can tell you that this will probably be the only time I will ever give something away on Facebook, due to the oppressive and convoluted requirements. Good luck!
Well, if you’re going to give something away, this is certainly the best you could do! I LOVE it!!
Thank you! It was just pure luck that I ended up with an extra. I hope it goes to a good home. 🙂
